Ophthalmology
Both Ophthalmologists and Optometrists are primary care eye doctors. Ophthalmologists are medical doctors (MD) trained in the subspecialty of eye surgery and the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases. Doctors of Optometry (OD) practice non-surgical diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases. Ophthalmologists and Optometrists perform routine eye exams and manage eye diseases, injuries, and disorders of the visual system. In coordinated practice, patients may be managed by an Ophthalmologist and Optometrist together to maximize expertise and efficiency.
