Nelson Chen Fernandez, MD is a Family Physician at Complete Health Short Pump, formerly Centerville Family Practice. He earned his medical degree from the Universidad de Panama in 2004 and completed his Family Medicine Residency at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, DE, in 2010. Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Fernandez has been providing patient-centered care since 2010, with a focus on aligning treatment with patient goals and preferences.
Dr. Fernandez’s dedication to healthcare earned him the Virginia Community Healthcare Association Provider of the Year award in May 2013. His decision to pursue medicine was inspired by his father, a pediatrician who owned a small clinic.
Before joining Complete Health, Dr. Fernandez practiced at Heart City Health Center in Indiana, Capital Area Health Network in Richmond, VA, and Centerville Family Practice in Manakin Sabot, VA. He also served part-time as a physician for the Care A Van program, providing care to the uninsured in Richmond from 2018 to 2024.
In his personal time, Dr. Fernandez enjoys spending time with his wife, children, and dog, attending his kids’ sports activities, and cheering for his favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles.
