Medical Director, Hospice & Palliative Care
Dr. Chris Phillips is a highly experienced physician and healthcare leader with more than two decades of service across inpatient, post-acute, and value-based care settings. Since 2023, he has served as Medical Director at Complete Health, where he provides clinical leadership, supports provider performance, and drives quality initiatives that enhance patient outcomes across the organization. In addition to his role at Complete Health, Dr. Phillips is the cofounder and a board member of Cadenza Health, a physician-led utilization review company dedicated to strengthening healthcare quality, documentation accuracy, and appropriate medical utilization. His clinical background includes longstanding roles as a practicing physician with Grandview Medical and SouthernCare New Beacon, and he previously served as Associate Medical Director at Prospero Health, partnering with interdisciplinary teams to deliver home-based palliative care. Earlier in his career, Dr. Phillips was a cofounder, board member, and past president of Birmingham Hospitalists, P.C., where he led inpatient care teams and oversaw operational, documentation, and quality processes for more than 14 years. His diverse leadership experience reflects a deep commitment to patient-centered care, clinical integrity, and improving the healthcare system at every level. Dr. Phillips is board-certified in Hospital Medicine and Internal Medicine. He is also certified by the Hospice Medical Director Certification Board. He has his Bachelor of Science from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and his Doctor of Medicine from the UAB Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine.
