One of Alabama’s largest and oldest privately held, multi-specialty practices joins Birmingham’s primary care leader

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., January 17, 2023 – Norwood Clinic has joined the Complete Health family of primary care practices as Complete Health continues its growth in Birmingham and across the Southeast. Norwood Clinic has been caring for patients in the Birmingham area for nearly 100 years and is one of Alabama’s largest and oldest privately held, multi-specialty practices.

“Norwood’s legacy of caring for Birmingham is unmatched in our area, and we are thrilled to find a partner who shares our dedication to compassionate, whole-patient care,” said Dr. Doug Alford, M.D. who has practiced with Norwood for 25 years. Joining Complete Health are 11 physicians and six advanced practice providers. Norwood Clinic doubles Complete Health’s footprint from eight to 16 locations in Alabama, including clinics in Fultondale, Gardendale, Guin, Grandview and Brookwood Baptist Medical Center.

“We are proud to welcome the prestigious Norwood Clinic to Complete Health,” said Jeff Preuss, CEO of Complete Health. “Our team is committed to continuing its long legacy of quality, patient-focused care in the Birmingham area.”

Norwood Clinic was incorporated in 1925 and opened its doors to the public in 1926 with convenient accessibility to Norwood Hospital for both patients and physicians. The practice was founded by physician and general surgeon Dr. Charles N. Carraway who later built a 16-bed hospital and office next to his Pratt City Home. Inspired by his work with and study of the Mayo Clinic (the first, organized multi-specialty medical group practice in the U.S.) he grew the clinic to include more than a dozen specialties.

Becoming a part of Complete Health provides additional resources to continue to provide excellent patient care in a privately-owned, physician-driven company independent from larger health systems and insurance companies. Complete Health practices include those formerly known as Simon-Williamson, Birmingham Internal Medicine Associates, Northside Medical Associates, Deerfoot Internal Medicine and Adamsville Family Medicine. Complete Health now has more than 130 health care providers, 800 employees and 23 locations caring for more than 150,000 patients in Alabama and Florida.

Complete Health offers a unique, industry-leading concept in patient care – dedicated care coordinators and member support representatives who educate and address concerns of patients, reducing the stress that often comes with finding the right care, benefits, and services needed to stay healthy.
